July 27 - August
3, forty-one diverse students from across the country came to the Washington DC area to be trained as LEADDers. Working with an exceptional faculty of educators and policy
experts, students explored the following issues in-depth:
- The First Amendment: The Free Exercise and Disestablishment of Religion
- America's Diverse Religious Traditions
- Appropriate Role of Religion in the Public Square
- How to Promote "Active Pluralism" in their Communities
The learning was complemented by a beautiful setting in the nation's capitol,
with free time for a Frisbee toss, volleyball and basketball and an opportunity for
students from diverse backgrounds to interact with each other.
During their academic and team-building sessions, LEADDers focus
on viable action plans to strengthen democracy and diversity within
their local communities. Click here to view some of LEADDers' action plans.
